The best reefs of Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm el Sheikh is a favorite resort of many divers. There are many interesting places for diving, which allow you to see not only marine life, but also bright coral reefs and wrecks. We talk about dive sites that are definitely worth a visit while relaxing in an Egyptian resort.

According to experienced tourists, the best reefs of Sharm El Sheikh:

Ras Goskhany;
Jackson Reef;
Thomas;
Lagoon;
Far garden;
reefs in Sharks Bay and Ras Um El Sid.

Jackson Reef
It is the northernmost of the four reefs located in the Tiran Strait, which in turn separates Saudi Arabia from the Sinai Peninsula. The reef attracts both beginners and experienced divers. The main attraction here, in addition to marine cloisters, is the wrecked merchant ship Lara.

On the seabed are fiery corals and reefs of the gorgonian species. In addition, the place was chosen by turtles and large fish such as reef and gray sharks, hammerhead sharks. It is best to dive from the south side of the reef, as it is well protected from strong waves.

Ras Gokhslani
In the northern part of the small bay of Mars-Barayk is Ras Gokhslani. It is popular with beginners as it is smaller here than in Ras Mohammed. At a depth of 20-25 meters, divers can see colorful corals, among which butterfly fish, antipasas, and schools of glass fish swim.

Reef Thomas
Many believe that this is the best reef of Sharm El Sheikh. Despite its small size, the underwater world is diverse and is not inferior to the neighboring Gordon or Jackson. The reef is located in the Tiran Strait, where there is an increased concentration of salt in the water. In the south of Thomas you can see sandy plateaus on which sharks sometimes sleep. Experienced divers also explore the canyon, located at a depth of 35 meters. It forms three arches at a distance of 61, 51 and 44 meters from the surface of the water. In the canyon there are not only different species of fish, but also tiger sharks 5 m long.

Since Thomas is located near the Nabq area, you can easily choose a hotel with a good reef in Sharm El Sheikh. For example, look at Royal Albatros Moderna, Rixos Sharm El Sheikh or other resorts in this region.

Reef Lagoon
This picturesque place is closest to Tiran Island. It is great for snorkeling. Here, in addition to table-shaped reefs, as well as coral gorgonians and acropores, there are a huge number of clown fish and anemones. The reef depth reaches 35 meters. It is interesting not only because of the rich underwater world. In this area, on the seabed, there is also the sunken ship “Cormoran”.

Most often, dive south of the Lagoon. In the summer, when the water warms up, here you can find leopard and whitefin sharks, as well as dolphins and turtles.

If you are looking for a good reef near a hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Far Garden will be a good choice. Divers are attracted by many soft and hard corals, and coral “towers” located at a depth of 30 meters under the water column. In the northern part of the reef there is a beautiful cave “Cathedral”, where sponges live, small fish hide and swim karanksy.

Sharks Bay and Ras Um El Sid
The reef in the Ras Um El Sid area is the best choice for diving and snorkeling. The coastline in this area smoothly “sinks” to a depth of 20, and in some places up to 60 meters, which allows you to admire corals and caves, among which lionfish, moray eels, groupers and other representatives of marine fauna swim. Many divers dive here at night.

Sharks Bay is recommended for beginner divers, as you can get acquainted with marine life even at a depth of 20 meters. In these waters there are Napoleons, stingrays, moray eels, lionfish and other underwater inhabitants. You can easily find the best Sharm El Sheikh reef hotels in the Sharks Bay area to explore the magical waters of the Red Sea. Among the many hotels, Savoy Sharm, Pyramisa Sharm El Sheikh and Grand Rotana Resort & Spa deserve special attention.
